35th Geological Winter Meeting

In January 2022, Iceland will host the 35th Nordic Geological Winter Meeting in Reykjavík.

The preparation for the meeting is well under way. However, due to the Covid-19 situation, it is not certain what the world will look like in 2022 but the current plan is an on-site meeting that will take place on 5–7 January. Plan B is to have the meeting online. The final decision will be made in May or June 2021.

A first circular will be sent out in February 2021, and further information will also be posted here.

Stefan Andersson awarded the Jan Bergström Prize

The Board of the Geological Society has decided to award the 2020 Jan Bergström Prize for young promising researchers in earth sciences to Stefan Andersson, Uppsala University. The prize is awarded to young geoscientists who have already made significant contributions to the geosciences early in their scientific careers.

Magnus Hellqvist new editor of GFF

The election of the editor of GFF has now been completed and the ballot papers have been counted. Of the 50 votes received, 48 answered yes and 2 abstained. 100 issues of Geologiskt forum

This week, issue number 100 of Geologiskt forum is distributed. The first issue of the magazine saw the light of day in March 1994. It was then something of an experiment, but in retrospect we can conclude that the experiment was quite successful. We hope you will find something in this issue that can interest you and would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. The Society’s award winners 2018

The Geological Society’s Wickman Award in geochemistry and isotope geology goes this year Jenny Andersson, Geological Survey of Sweden. The Jan Bergström Award to Young Researchers is awarded to Anders Lindskog, Florida State University and Lund University. The winners will receive their awards in Uppsala on November 8 in connection with the awards ceremony for Geologist of the Year. Read more about the prize winners below.
