Below is a list of the Geological Society’s award winners over the years.
Geological Society’s Merit Plaque
1946 to Karl Esaias Sahlström
“with thanks for many years of unselfish work as the society’s treasurer”
(GFF 68, p. 469). Sahlström (1884–1964) was the society’s treasurer for 33 years (1917–1949).
1957 to Ragnar Sandegren
“with thanks for many years of unselfish work as the society’s editor”
(GFF 79, p. 108). Sandegren (1887–1966) was the society’s secretary and editor for 15 years (1926–1937 and 1952–1954) and its editor for two years (1955-1956).
1968 to Olof Gabrielson
“with thanks for many years of unselfish work as the society’s treasurer”
(GFF 91, p. 138). Gabrielson (1912–1980) was the society’s treasurer for 14 years (1954–1967).
1972 to Erik Åhman
“with thanks for many years of unselfish work as the society’s secretary”
(GFF 95, pp. 299-300). Åhman (1912–1997) was the society’s secretary for 18 years (1955–1972).
2002 to Björn Sundquist
“for his committed and long-standing editorial effort for the society’s two journals”
(Geologiskt forum 33, p. 29; GFF 123, p. 251). Sundquist (b. 1946) was the society’s editor for almost 17 years (1985–2001).
