Today (2021-04-16) the organising committee for the Geological Society 150 years anniversary meeting took the decision to postpone the meeting. While this decision was hard to take it reflects the current pandemic situation and the fact that we at this stage do not know what the situation will be like in August. The decision to postpone, and not run a digital meeting, rests on the fact that many members have advised that they would rather meet at a later occasion in real life than in yet another digital zoom or teams meeting. The organising committee shares this view.
Therefore, the decision is to postpone the meeting one year, and hold the meeting in the same venue, the same time next year. Essentially this means that we will halt the collection of abstracts until next year and the process with registration will also be cancelled and reopened next year.
It is our ambition to ensure that all geoscientists in Sweden will find it worthwhile to attend next year. So stay tuned and prepare your contributions for a fantastic geoscientific conference next year in Uppsala. We in the organising committee long to meet you all in real life August 2022 in Uppsala!
Until then, keep the spirit up, keep the distance, and cross your fingers that the pandemic will be gone sooner rather than later!
Best regards
Organising committee
